Can you smell it? Spring is in the air. The roads are pink with petals, the trees full of green leafs and the sun is warm and gentle. Perhaps the days of steaming stews and hot cocoas are over, for now at least. When I think spring, I think fresh, light and perhaps a bit sweet. One food that may suit these descriptions best is yoghurt. So no need to use any oven or hob this week, we’re just cutting some fruit, mixing some yoghurt and put it together in a beautiful, colourful cup. I think the children really are getting better at asking and giving each other directions. How else could they have come to such fantastically delecious results?

Remember when we made that milk carton planter? This week we had a chance to fill them. You have most likely heard of and probably also used parsley. Parsley does not only taste great in dishes, but some people eat it after a meal to freshen their breath. After adding some final touches to our planters and reading a book about how plants grow we could start planting our seeds. We filled our planters with a good bit of soil, made a small hole and planted the seeds inside. With a bit of water and some sunlight every day you should get a nice healthy parsley plant in a couple of weeks.

【From Teacher’s Eye ~授業後の先生から一言~】

This was a week to review and repeat the things we had learnt previously. As usual the students had the chance to talk with me personally, a wonderful opportunity to ask questions or just to try and talk in English.
Luckily there was enough time left to play one or two games to unwind and have fun in English. We thought it may be a good idea to introduce some more verbs into our students vocabulary. The newly introduced vocabulary was used in a game. Students had to try to cross the road without the crossing guard catching them. First they had to ask: ”Can I cross?” If yes they could either cross the road walking, hopping, jumping or crawling. This was up to the corssing guard to decide. Who can cross the quickest?

Time for another cooking lesson!  What did we make this week?  We made sushi in a cup.  With the help of pictures the students could tell each other how to make this delicious small dish. Just don’t forget to ask: ”How much?” because before we know it we might be cooking for giants.  Instructing and heling each other the students once again made a mouthwatering dish.

【From Teacher’s Eye ~授業後の先生から一言~】

This week we had a look through the lens of a camera and through that lens we saw a little world that we had created ourselves. It all started with a great big mess of miscellaneous things. Small things, big things, hard things, soft things, white things, green things and all sorts of other colours and shapes. What kinds of things can we use to make a beach, what can we use to make a forest? It was up to the students to decide. ”I want the shells.” Said one student, with his arm streched out, pointing at the shells. This way everyone could select an item. These were the items we used to create our world! ”Where should it go?” ”Put it next to the rock.” When all the items were in place we saw a wonderful world. Having added a blue sky it was time to take a picture.

This week it was time to relax and have fun. Because it is Valentine’s day soon we decided to play a game of collect the hearts. Each student had a piece of paper with the numbers 1 to 6 on it. With the help of a die we collected our hearts. Someone rolled a six. ”Put the heart on number six.” the class instructed. As one student’s turn ended another one’s began, ”It’s my turn.” Who could collect the most hearts? Who could collect them the quickest?

【From Teacher’s Eye ~授業後の先生から一言~】

Repetition is an important thing when you’re learning a language, so in this weeks one-on-one we repeated, as usual, the things we had learnt the past few weeks. I was glad to see how many students were able to reply in full sentences. Truly a great job! The previous week we had learned the words ”on” and ”under”. This week we added ”behind” and ”in front of”. We gave the children a puzzle to finish, but there was one problem; the last piece was missing, hidden either by me or a fellow student! ”Where is it?” Everyone asked. ”It’s behind the books,” another explained. After finding all he pieces we finally saw what it was. ”It’s a cat!’

【From Teacher’s Eye ~授業後の先生から一言~】

We’ve all had those moments where we’ve lost our keys, our wallets, phones or other items. Sometimes someoene around you knows where you’ve put it and can help you find it by saying, for example: ”It’s on the table.”  This week we had a look at the words ‘on’ and ‘under’. Is the magnet on or under the table? Is it on or under the chair? How about the spiders that we read about, where were they? Spiders are so small they can be in all sorts of places! There were spiders on the floor, under the bed, in the window, but fear not, there were none in our classroom. What we did have was equipment to make poffertjes! What’s that, you ask? Poffertjes are really small pancakes often enjoyed as a snack in the Netherlands. Telling each other what to do our students made some lovely, little pancakes. Enjoy!
