【From Teacher’s Eye ~授業後の先生から一言~】

This week, we practise traditional Japanese calligraphy with the help of English! The students learn the names of different Japanese calligraphy tools and then we play a game of “What’s in the box?”, where they have to guess the tool in the box. They also learn directions like up, down, left, right, front and back and we do a little dance where we move our body in different directions. Finally, they learn the correct way of sitting and holding the brush for Japanese calligraphy and practise writing kanji by looking at the videos and samples, with the help of English instructions.

【From Teacher’s Eye ~授業後の先生から一言~】

Kids hate greens, but not when it’s in a smoothie! So this week, we are making a yummy and healthy smoothie with fruits and spinach. We also revise months and dates by playing a game of touching the month that matches with the picture and talking about each other’s birthdays. While making the smoothie, the students learn new phrases such as “Slice the banana”, “Cut into smaller pieces” and “Turn the dial”. They also learn the phrase, “Look, it turned green!” before “Sipping the smoothie”!

【From Teacher’s Eye ~授業後の先生から一言~】

This week, we are making a countdown calendar for Christmas! We practice names of the 12 months of the year and learn how to say the dates with ordinal numbers such as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. Then we fun play a game to match pictures with the respective months! Finally, we trace numbers on the December calendar while revising ordinal numbers on it, stick a picture of Santa Claus (whose beard has circles for a countdown to Christmas!) at the top, and stick the picture of a Christmas present next to him while discussing what everyone wants for Christmas.

【From Teacher’s Eye ~授業後の先生から一言~】

This week, we try to get in shape with some Surya Namaskar! The students revise the phrase “I can ___” to express if they can do a yoga pose or not. We try anyway and they say “I did it!” We play a quiz where the students have to guess the correct answer. Then we practise parts of the body like head, hands, legs, neck, knees, etc. and do a warm-up exercise and then the 12 steps of Surya Namaskar, which is a yoga exercise to greet the sun in the morning.

【From Teacher’s Eye ~授業後の先生から一言~】

This week, we are doing some fun experiments with static electricity! We first rub a balloon on our hair and the hair sticks to the balloon. Then we make a jellyfish out of a tape and rub both the balloon and the jellyfish on a cloth. This time, the plastic jellyfish repels the balloon, so we can make the jellyfish float in the air with the balloon. We also make coloured and shaped cellophane papers jump to the balloon using static. Lastly, we play a game where two teams race their  bottles using a balloon charged with static!

【From Teacher’s Eye ~授業後の先生から一言~】

This week, we are playing detectives to catch the criminal who steals money from a supermarket’s cash register! First we play a fun game of ‘Catch the Thief’, which is like ‘Throw the Handkerchief’, except that you steal the money from behind someone in the circle and run. Then we read a book about ‘Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar?’ Then we play a game of ‘I Spy with My Little Eyes’, where I give them hints of something I found with its size, colour and shape. Finally, we go to a supermarket where a theft takes place and we find clues one after the other which point towards the answer to “Who is the criminal?”

【From Teacher’s Eye ~授業後の先生から一言~】

This week, we celebrate Halloween by cooking Pumpkin-yaki and dressing up in costumes! During the cooking activity, the students learn how to make the batter, pour it into the takoyaki pan and “Turn it around”. After it’s done, they transfer it to a plate and “Draw a scary face on it” with chocolate syrup. They eat the “Sweet” Pumpkin-yaki with “Bitter” tea. Then they dress up into their favourite costumes and we play a game of “Who am I?”, where I sit behind a curtain and try to guess the costume from their shadows. Then the students gather together and say “Trick or treat” and we wish each other “Happy Halloween!”.

Halloween’s almost here! So this week, we go Halloween shopping. The students express how to say, “I want to be _____” to express whom they want to dress up as on Halloween. They learn how to answer to the question “Why?” with “Because _____”. For the shopping, they choose which costume they want and try to buy it. They learn phrases such as “I want this one! and “How much is it?”

10/10・11・12『Let’s Celebrate the Indian Festival of Light – Diwali (インドの光の祭り(ディワリ)を祝おう!)』を開催。

【From Teacher’s Eye ~授業後の先生から一言~】

This week, we celebrate the Indian festival of lights – Diwali. How do we do that? We make a lantern with coloured paper in activity time. But before that, I explain to them what Diwali is and how we celebrate it in India with clay lamps, lanterns, decorations made with coloured powder, sweets and firecrackers! But why is Diwali celebrated in India? It is to commemorate the return of Lord Rama and his wife Sita to their kingdom after defeating the evil lord Ravana. In activity time, after making the lantern, the students learn phrases such as “Switch on the light” and “So pretty and colourful”. We also revise “I want ___” during homework discussion to express which type of sweet the students want and play a game of quoites to actually get the sweets.

【From Teacher’s Eye ~授業後の先生から一言~】

This week, we have fun with music using a self-made tambourine. We also learn to express how to say “I want ___” by looking at cards of different foods! While making the tambourine, the students learn the phrase, “Punch a hole” and after making it, “Shake the tambourine” and “Tap the tambourine”. Then we enjoy by playing music on the tambourine and doing the “Hokey Pokey” dance!
